I genuinely think there are many people at WG that want to change the system, in order to make the game more sustainable for the future. Most of all, I think it's literally a case of "we started down this road, now we can't suddenly turn it all around". Selling the EBR, Borat, etc for cash when people have depleted their lootbox gold is predatory to be sure, but also great profits.

If people only spend gold on boxes now and then surf on that gold all year long (I try to do that as much as possible) they are missing income.

And completely rebalancing all other tanks to effectively "nerf" an OP premium tank is way too complex to do. WG knows they run into legal trouble if they nerf premiums, and this isnt the same in many other online games.

If the EBR gets slapped on an advent calendar for 10k gold WG would make a killing, but also would have to dump 15 vs 15 of them in games.

Keeping the most OP vehicles behind the biggest paywall or biggest restrictions helps to keep them desirable, to keep you spending through the year, and to balance the already dodgy MM. And if I don't find something attrattive enough to spend my hard earned money on, I don't do that. Without the calendar and proper interesting tanks in the boxes the value this thing offers is not that attractive anymore. It used to be the best value WG offered, but also in a huge part because it gave enough gold to buy 2-3 tanks on the calendar. Fk me it would be enough to make it grant us a 5% credit bonus but why bother, players will buy a fkin sht if it is wrapped in gold. Oh and don't forget to buy a colla and a Bowl for your dog which gives ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Christmas Ops? Sure drop some shitty resources to separately unlock atmosphere or credit bonus. Marathon? Lmao Nope, they tested on the shptk one and it turned out too profitable for the players so no more. Since the guaranteed premium tank in 50th box was introduced, it is harder to drop a premium. WG recently has taken the tactics of cutting on the value of events. Caliban 2.0 with broken armor and an absolutely terrible gun, a hulldown 300 armor on the front of the turret tank with an absolutely terrible gun, 0.44 (!!!!) dispersion? shitloads of gold you won't use for anything because WG might make batlepasses cash only?
